Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care System
The Federal and Provincial governments have announced the launch of the Canada-Wide Early Leaning and Child Care (CWELCC) system in Ontario. This program offers financial relief to families with children in daycare who are under the age of 6 before June 30th in the current calendar year.
Please note that the schedule for fee reduction in as follows:
- Effective April 2022, childcare fees shall be reduced up to 25 percent. This change will be retroactive to April 1, 2022.
- Please note that the program is not yet active – your child care fees shall remain the same for now. Once the program is officially available, any overpayments will be returned to the parents.
- Full fee reduced by 25%
- Fees of children with subsidy funding shall be reduced by 25%, to a minimum of $12
- If you have overpaid, you will receive a rebate retroactive to April 1, 2022 (the date of the rebate is TBD)
- In December 2022, childcare fees shall be reduced by an average of 50%.
- In September 2024, families will see further reductions in fees, culminating in a final reduction to an average of $10 per day by September 2025.
Midland Child Care Centre has enrolled in the government’s Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system. As a parent or guardian of a child under the age of 6, you do not need to apply to get a fee reduction.
Lowering fees
To ensure child care is more affordable for families, we are lowering average fees for CWELCC-enrolled licensed child care programs through a phased approach:
- On March 28, 2022, the government announced a child care fee reduction of up to 25% for children under age 6, effective April 1, 2022.
- In December, 2022, the government further reduced child care fees up to 37% bringing the provincial average fee to $23 per day (50% of 2020 fees).
- Starting in January 2025, the government capped fees at $22 per day for children under age 6.
- By March 2026, the government shall lower licensed child care fees to an average of $10 per day.
