The government has announced the reopening of childcare centres in Ontario to support parents who require childcare to return to work. The staff of Midland Child Centre are committed to following strict health and safety guidelines to ensure that our centre provides a safe and healthy environment. We continue to be mindful that this virus remains a public health risk.
  • All children, staff and supply teachers, essential workers, and authorized visitors must be screened daily for symptoms and have a temperature check before entering the daycare. Please see the PDF for information.
  • Entry to the centre shall only be granted to children, staff, and essential workers who answered NO to ALL of the screening questions.
  • Entry to the centre shall be denied if any screening question was answered YES.
  • If a child attendee has even one symptom on the screening tool, they must stay home, self-isolate and get tested at an Assessment Centre. In addition, their siblings and other children in the household must also self-isolate.
  • Records must be updated when a child or staff is absent.
  • Parents/guardians are not permitted to enter the facility, and must not go past the designated health screening area, to ensure physical distancing.
  • Parents and guardians do not need temperature checks since they are not permitted to enter the facility.
  • If a child or staff feels unwell or ill, they shall be encouraged to seek COVID-19 testing at an assessment centre, and to call TeleHealth Ontario or their primary care provider to determine if further care is required.
  • As of September 1, 2020, child care settings may return to maximum group sizes. Each group must stay together throughout the day for the entire week.
  • Physical distancing of at least 2 metres must be maintained between children by:
    - spreading children out into different areas,
    - limiting the gym to one group of children at a time,
    - using visual cues to promote physical distancing, and
    - ensuring activities do not involve shared objects or toys.
  • Face-to-face appointments with parents / guardians shall be postponed or switched to virtual appointments.
  • Staff and children must frequently wash hands thoroughly with soap and water (following our hand washing guidelines) or use hand sanitizer (70% alcohol) before and after snack and lunch time and during washroom time.
  • Snacks and lunch must be served in individual portion sizes to the children.
  • Outside food is not permitted in the centre except for special dietary considerations.
  • Staff must clean and disinfect toys and large equipment after being used by a child.
  • Staff with symptoms of COVID-19 must go to an assessment centre for testing as soon as possible, self-isolate at home until their result is available, and remain at home until Toronto Public Health determines the staff is able to return to work.
  • A child who is ill will be separated from all other children to the designated exclusion room.  Parent/guardian shall be contacted and must pick up the child immediately.
  • Any child with symptoms must follow the instructions of Toronto Public Health to determine when the child may return to the centre.
  • If you suspect a child has symptoms of a reportable communicable disease, the staff must report this immediately to TPH's Communicable Disease Surveillance Unit (416-392-2489) and report it as a Serious Occurrence.
